Former AFL player Jason Akermanis has apologised for his scathing remarks about Jim Stynes during an interview for 92.7 on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday. When asked about Jim's passing, Akermanis described him as 'a nasty man in his day. He had a nice turn of phrase, and he made sure he knew how you felt'.

A minutes thought would have shown Akermanis that he was way out of line with his utterances, but for some a minute is long and a thought is difficult. Later that day, he went back on the air to clarify his comments:

The former Brisban Lions forward also issued a press release yesterday, apologising for causing offence. Akermanis' defence with regard to what had said during the interview was that he was simply trying to point out that 'there are more people who deserve as much credit as Jim for doing great things for the community'.

The full press release can be found on the Perth Now website.
