Nigel Worthington must feel like the last girl sitting at the disco, staring at the ground and praying for the lights to turn on. James McClean the brightest prospect in the Airtricity league for some time has decided that he is not only going to change clubs(with a move to Sunderland about to be sealed tomorrow) but he has plumped for Giovanni's charges rather than Nigel, even though he had been delighted with the recent callup.
The left winger said
“At the moment, my total focus is on joining Sunderland and I intend to work very hard in an effort to improve and, hopefully, play in the first team squad.
“I told Nigel (Worthington) that and while I have not been called-up to the Republic of Ireland squad, I’d rather follow my heart and not close the door on such a possibility in the future.
“ I don’t want to be tied up internationally at this stage of my career and I’m prepared to take a risk in that regard,”
