They may be England and Lions teammates, but there was no love lost between James Haskell and Joe Marler on Sunday afternoon.
Wasps were playing Harlequins in Coventry when the 'Archbishop Of Banterbury' was sent to the sin-bin for an altercation with Marler.
The two players weren't giving an inch to the other once Haskell came off the bench, but the anger got the better of him when he lashed out at the England prop.
Before he was sent to the sin-bin, Haskell put up one of the more unusual defences to a referee, citing the fact that Marler may have used a water bottle slyly.
He pulled my scrum-cap off. That's illegal...
[Marler] sprayed water in my face. Are you allowed do that? He sprayed water in my face. Review that again!
He sprayed water in my face and I reacted. And he choked me with the scrum-cap. That's not allowed!
Despite the issues on the field, both men were all smiles after the final whistle. The duo will be teammates during England's Autumn Internationals next month.
It looks like constant irritation from an international teammate doesn't count as "banter" for Haskell.
