"If Ireland do qualify for Test cricket, England will guarantee that we play them," - Giles Clarke, ECB Chairman.
England have signaled their intention to play Ireland as soon as the new proposals for changes in the structure of Test cricket take effect. The proposals, which were effectively ratified in Dubai last week, allow the associate nations compete at Test level under a new two-tier structure.
Interestingly, Bangladesh, the worst of the Test nations, were against the changes to the new structure. They were frightened by the proposals to create a new two-tier structure with promotion and relegation to the elite league, rather than the archaic ten team apartheid that exists at present.
