It's safe to say that Derek Campbell isn't having the best week. Playing for the Hull Stingrays against the Dundee Stars in Britain's Elite Ice Hockey League on Saturday, the Canadian forward was on the receiving end of a big, high hit from behind by Nico Sacchetti.
A fight ensued between members of both teams, with Campbell getting fully involved, resulting in him being sent to the dressing room. But things didn't end there, as Campbell and Sacchetti continued to fight off the ice and in the stands.
It's difficult to see exactly what happened based on that clip, with the commentators' confused excitement during the fight in the stands telling the story of the clip.
However, anticipating a ban the Stingrays fired Campbell before the league announced their decision today. It was just as well, with the league handing down a 47 game suspension for a series of infringements.
The Elite League announced the decision on their website, giving a breakdown of the ban (explaining that Campbell was given a match penalty for "excessive roughness"):
"Fighting off the ice = 15 matches
Attempted eye gouge = 12 matches
Knee to the head = 10 matches
Excessive force to the head resulting in an impact to the ice = 10 matches"
