]You know a sports series is getting overheated when local newspapers have to write patronising editorials telling fans to behave. The Boston Globe felt inspired to do as much before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final the other day. The Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks have no great history of hatred, but their Stanley Cup rivalry has brought out the darkside of hockey fandom (in fairness, cheap shots like the one above played their part). It wasn't just 'mustard-squirting' that irked some Canucks fans.
Racism has no place in the stands, but spare us the 'do unto another...' moralizing. Game 5 is in Vancouver tonight. We hope it gets sloppy.
