American Pharoah became the first horse in the 37 years and only the twelfth in history to win the legendary Triple Crown last night, winning all three of America's biggest races.
After winning the Kentucky Derby early last month and then the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico three weeks ago, the hype surrounding American Pharoah shot through the roof in advance of the Belmont Stakes. Since Affirmed last completed the famous trio back in 1978, eleven horses had claimed the first two races only to stumble (metaphorically at least) in Belmont Park.
Last night, the wait for another Triple Crown winner ended and the commentary was pretty enthralling as Victor Espinoza rode the horse to glory.
American Pharoah joins a fairly legendary band of horses which includes Secretariat and War Admiral in completing the fabled Triple Crown.
