The Irish leg of the Wings for Life world run kicked off in Killarney today. The likes of JJ Hanrahan and Bernard Brogan joined hundreds of runners for a most worthy cause.

Dublin GAA’s Bernard Brogan commented, “It’s not at all like Gaelic football. It was my first time running just over 10km’s before being caught by the car but being there was all that mattered. It’s all about having fun and raising money for an important cause.”

Galway All-star hurler Joe Canning said, “I joined Seamus Moynihan from the start but he left me in his wake after 10km. I just wanted to be here to show some support for people who can’t walk from spinal injury. This event might make some real progress in finding a cure.”

Men’s winner John O’Regan said, “I’m jacked after the run. It was cloudy but quite warm. The location really made it and I’m glad to have flown the flag for Ireland in a global event.”

Female winner Alison Kirwan said, "I'm thrilled with the win. What a buzz. I'm a proud Louth woman living in Kerry over a decade now so nice to fly the flag from my adopted home."

JJ Hanrahan said, " I think I was the first to be caught by the car. I was a bit tired from the match last night in Edinburgh but it was a great event and nice to run with some other sports stars I really admire like Siobhan Flemming."

Alison Canavan said, “I just wanted to get my personal goal of 10 km’s for my first ever race which I managed. I want to go further next year. It’s been great fun.”
