An Irish man hasn't won the Dublin City Marathon since 1993 but that could all change this bank holiday weekend....because no international athletes have been invited to take part.
The decision means that domestic success is all but guaranteed with Dundrum racer Joe Sweeney among the favourites to cross the finish line
In an effort to cut costs, competition organisers decided not to issue visas to international runners wishing to take part in today's 26.2 mile race and have promoted the event to Irish athletes as a domestic affair in the hopes of boosting its popularity this year.
Hopefully next season UEFA will follow suit and ban all non Irish sides from the Champions League? C'mon UCD!
