Before you ask, 'where's the sport in this story?', it contains references to gaming and wheelbarrowing, both of which we consider sports (wheelbarrowing is surely the national sport of some country).
According to the Irish Times, one DCU student was so enamoured with the success of the Angry Birds game (its publisher had a reported revenue of $195 million in 2012) that he decided to create a rival. That rival was going to be the not very originally titled 'Angry Pigs'. Also, had he not heard of 'Bad Piggies'?
The student had one obstacle to his dream of creating an app worth millions, he needed computers to program it.
So he and an accomplice decided that they would steal the required equipment from DCU. They were caught in the act by security guards though and tried to escape out of a window. The man with the plan, Femi Adekele, fell out of a window during the escape breaking his leg. Unable to leave the DCU grounds, his accomplice hid Adekele in a bush and returned 12 hours later with a wheelbarrow to transport the brains of the operation.
They were again spotted by security and Adekele has since pleaded guilty to burglary and received a 2-year suspended sentence.
According the Adekele's legal representative, the student had planned to make millions from the app. At which point we're sure he would have repaid his third level educator.
