Two Shades of Green, RTE's end of year documentary on the two Irish teams and their journey in Euro 2016, was screened last night.
It featured interviews with players and fans of both teams. In Northern Ireland's case, their supporters were celebrities, former Match of the Day 2 presenter Colm Murray and two-weight world champion Carl Frampton.
Every grand Irish adventure, bar the most abject ones, end with the players standing facing the Irish fans and saluting their followers.
Lyon on the 26th of June brought us this scene once more. For 45 minutes, Ireland looked capable of upsetting the host nation and dumping them out of their own tournament.
For some people, the highlight of the tournament was half-time in the France game, when Ireland led 1-0 and looked as likely to score another as concede.
Griezmann hit Ireland for two goals in a short space of time early in the second half and Ireland ran out of energy. At the end, the players stood and thanked the fans for their support.
One supporter told the documentary how Shane Long went over and handed his boots to his daughter. His daughter was in tears as was he.
'Will not say "classy gesture". Perhaps beautiful gesture will do. A lovely moment.
