The Northern Irishman and, son of a former Milan mayor, Gabriele Moratti were both found guilty of 'mutual injury,' although according to Reuters, Morratti's lawyer believes the sentence will be suspended and neither of the men will actually have go to jail.
Indeed when speaking to the Irish Independent, Irvine's lawyer said that he is likely to appeal.
Many outlets are reporting the row may have been over a text Irvine sent to an ex-girlfriend of Moratti but his lawyer told Reuters:
'Obviously it's easy for newspapers to say they fought because of jealousy over a woman, that they were two men who were rivals for her.
'It's a nice story. But in reality that's not the case.'
Irvine told the court 'I was struck by Moratti with two or three punches , I lost my balance and fell.' Both were accused of using glass during the row.
