A dejected Eddie Alvarez faced the music after being thoroughly outclassed by Conor McGregor in New York last night, doing the usual press rounds. Alvarez was thoroughly a broken man, but did provide a small amount of insight about what it's like to feel that famous McGregor left in an interview with Fox Sports.
McGregor's first kockdown of Alvarez was particularly ruthless. Alvarez missed on a punch and McGregor caught him with a left, right to the chin. Alvarez's legs went from under him and he tumbled to mat.
Here's Eddie on Fox describing exactly what that specific punch felt like.
Olivi: How did it feel after being dropped in that first round? Did you think that is a fluke? Did you think 'wow, this guy hits hard than anyone I ever fought before'? What was your thought process there?
Alvarez: The shot he hit me with...yeah...I think I threw a shot and he came over the top because I don't even remember...I just remember being on the floor...And I was like 'yeah that was quick, whatever that was it was [inexplicable]'. I don't think it hurt me so badly. It just hit me like a flash.
'I just remember being on the floor...it hit me like a flash.' Alvarez lost consciousness for at least 2 seconds. UFC commentators speak of the incredible power of the McGregor left. Here's an telling description from a man who found himself on the receiving end of one. It was powerful but it was also lethally quick.
