How On Earth Did The Editor Approve This Headline?

This is certainly a contender for the most offensive headline in sports history. In a way though, it conforms to the principles of journalism. It's concise, it sums up the whole story and, perhaps most importantly, it's memorable.

ESPN is a pretty reputable sports website which has left us doubting the authenticity of this image. Even if it is a photoshop, it's still comedic gold.

Take it all in though, as it's difficult to see this trend catching on. It's hard to envisage the Guardian running a "Massimo Cellino Gargles Balls" story or the Irish Times Sport supplement having a piece entitled "Rory McIlroy Shits All Over Competition". However, maybe they should.

If other publications followed ESPN's lead by breaking free from the stasis of journalistic ethics, they might get more people reading the news. Using vulgar words would not only benefit the industry, but could also inform the masses on matters of serious importance. Either that or it would just completely undermine the story itself.

I suppose we'll never know.
