How does a member of the Uruguay team react to the Suarez incident in the press?
Not commenting on the incident is bad enough, denying it happened is far worse, and, seemingly, much like when he nibbled Ivanovic, his teammates and coaching staff can't criticise him.
Well Diego Lugano has found the best way, turn the story on its head by verbally attacking the press and the player who was supposedly bitten, Giorgio Chiellini. Standard.
You saw this, really? You need to show me because I didn't see anything. Did you see it today or did you see what happened in other years. You couldn't have seen it today because nothing happened.
The worst of everything is the attitude of Chiellini. He's a great player, with an enormous status. It doesn't correspond with Italian football. As sportsmen leaving the field, crying and appealing against a rival. As a man he disappointed me totally.
Sounds like the Homer Simpson defence of 'If I can't see it, it's not illegal.'
