It seems Dave O'Leary is still at the helm at Al-Ahli
“When I arrived, I always knew this first year was going to be a transitional year for the club,” said O’Leary, whose resume also features a stint at English Premier League side Aston Villa.
“I have been taking at training sessions every night and we are looking forward to the season. That’s where our focus is. We’ll get a few new players next season and then we’ll move ahead. But it’s looking good right now.”
Ahli have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Gulf Clubs Championship along with Al Arabi, whom they beat 2-1 in the first leg in Kuwait.
The second leg of that tie will be played at the Rashid Stadium in Dubai.
But the long break to accommodate the UAE President’s Cup final and two rounds of the AFC Champions League means Ahli’s that match is a little less than two weeks away on April 20.
“Our next match is in the Gulf Clubs Championship with Al Arabi. We won the first leg of that match and are focused on winning that tournament. Unfortunately the way the fixtures are here, its two weeks away and we just have to deal with that.
“We have time so it’s just a matter of getting everyone fit for that match and then the next league matches. So we’ll see how we go.”
O’Leary sidestepped the red hot topic concerning his future at the club saying: “I’ve learned from my time in football that it’s better not to say anything… to just let things be and focus on the job.”
It's a pity he hadn't learned that before he started writing about his Leeds team being on trial while he was their bloody manager.. better late than never Dave.
