This afternoon brought good news as Hull City confirmed that Ryan Mason, who underwent surgery after fracturing his skull at Stamford Bridge, has been speaking in hospital.
The club released a statement saying that Mason will continue to be "monitored in the hospital over the coming days." They said that Ryan and his family are "extremely touched by the overwhelming support they have received."
Thus far, however, there has been no exclusive interview with Mason's fiancée Rachel Peters. We're sure the Daily Star or the Sun will be itching for her to comment.
The Daily Star have been pilloried for this rather striking headline this morning, which many deemed gauche even by Fleet Street standards.
With Mason still in the very tentative stages of his recovery from a terrifying injury (there had been no confirmation that he was speaking at that stage), many readers appear to have been mildly sickened (in some cases, not so mildly) that the paper so swiftly turned its gaze on his "stunning WAG."
The article includes a slideshow of Rachel Peters, which incorporates bikini shots on the beach along with various mirror selfies.
The Sun put together a marginally more tasteful article detailing that Mason and Peters were engaged a mere ten weeks before his horror injury. The article was similarly picture-heavy but they withheld a couple of the more obviously racy images.
The Daily Star somehow manage to scrape further into the bottom of the Ryan Mason barrel. Shame? Decency? Pah. pic.twitter.com/S761X0Dt46
