With many now preparing to dismiss McGregor's retirement tweet as a 'colossal leg pull', the man himself has doubled down on his earlier declaration in a very brief exchange with an Icelandic journalist.
Pétur Marinó Jónsson, an MMA journalist from the Icelandic website MMA Frettir, approached McGregor for a word after training tonight.
He was rebuffed.
No, I'm retired. Fuck interviews.
He was approached by the journalist after the earlier tweet surfaced.
The contention that the whole thing was a joke was supported by John Kavanagh's facebook post tonight, suggesting that a mate of his had abandoned plumbing a few years back but was looking to start up again.
Hours later, however, Helwani is still saying that from what he's seeing, the retirement is genuine and the MMA are working on a solution.
Reasons still unclear, but 4 hours later, multiple sources maintaining McGregor's tweet is real. UFC working on next step(s) at this time.
