Conor McGregor has been nominated for the ESPY for 'Breakthrough Athlete of The Year' by ESPN.
Should he win, the Crumlin native would be following in the footsteps of the likes of LeBron James, Tom Brady and Tiger Woods.
The voting, which is open to fans here, pits McGregor against NBA rookie phenomenon Karl Anthony Towns, baseball pitcher Jake Arrieta and snowboarded Chloe Kim.
It is one of the most prestigious awards at the ceremony and McGregor's main competition is likely to come from NBA star Towns who was one of the most dominant rookies in NBA history and is predicted to become one of the biggest names in the game in the next few years.
ESPN say of McGregor;
"he recieved worldwide attention after knocking out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds - the fastest finish ever in a UFC title fight."
McGregor is also up for an award as 'Best Fighter' but he is less likely to win that category as his fellow UFC star Robbie Lawler is also up for the award and the two are likely to spilt the rabid UFC vote between them.
McGregor also faces two of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world - Gennada Golovkin and Roman Gonzales - as well as Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Voting will remain open until the 13th July.
