Aussie rules side Carlton are reportedly interested in acquiring young Galway footballer Cillian McDaid.
Australian outlet The Age reports that McDaid was one of two Irish players on show at the AFL's recent draft combine. The other was Kerry footballer Stefan Okunbar.
McDaid and Okunbar were both linked with moves to Essendon and St. Kilda's in the past. However, it is now said that Carlton's interest in signing McDaid is 'genuine'.
Earlier this year, the 20-year-old was part of the Galway U21 side which beat Dublin in the All-Ireland final. He scored 1-1 in the game from his wing-back berth.
McDaid, from Caughwell, also won an All-Ireland minor hurling medal with Galway in 2015. He came on as a late sub in the win against Tipperary.
If he does sign for Carlton - and it would be a major blow to Galway football - McDaid would join two other Irish players at the club. Cork's Ciaran Sheehan and Louth's Ciaran Byrne are also on the books. He would also join a growing contingent of Irish footballers who play for Melbourne clubs.
