Chris Ashton, England winger, and the man who possesses the biggest ego English rugby has seen since Sir Clive Woodward left, announced his long anticipated departure from Northampton on Twitter this morning.
The sudden announcement comes hot on the heels of a report in todays Telegraph newspaper. The article paints a pretty damning picture of Ashton and alleges the soon to be Saracen stormed out of training following a falling out with Director of Rugby, Jim Mallinder.
It is understood Wednesday’s bust-up occurred directly after Ashton told Northampton and Mallinder of his final decision regarding Saracens. As recently as the Premiership match against Harlequins on Jan 6, Ashton was insisting that no deal had been done and that he was still making his mind up.
