Former UFC middleweight/ light heavyweight contender Chael Sonnen has been fired from his broadcasting job with the UFC and Fox Sports.
Sonnen recently retired as a mixed martial artist after failing a random drug test administered by the Nevada Athletic Commission on May 24. It emerged last week that he failed a second random drugs test. Fox Sports and the UFC released a joint statement today confirming the broadcaster's termination.
The UFC and FOX Sports organizations announced today the termination of their respective broadcasting services agreements with analyst Chael Sonnen. This decision comes in light of Sonnen failing a second test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission for banned substances in June. Sonnen was previously under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing an initial test conducted in May.
This is the third drugs test Sonnen has failed in his MMA career. Sonnen tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone after his title fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117 in 2010.
Sonnen has yet to release a statement on his contract termination.
