Chad Mendes has naturally been reflecting on his time in the Octagon with Conor McGregor. Mendes won the first round and caused McGregor a world of trouble until the knockout blow three seconds before the end of the second round.
Rather like the Rumble in the Jungle when George Foreman rained punches down on Muhammad Ali, only to hear his opponent taunting him with comments like 'you disappoint George, you're not cracking pop-corn', McGregor never shut while Mendes had him on the floor.
The guy didn’t stop talking shit the entire time. I was hitting him with everything I had and the guy was still running his mouth, that’s Conor I guess. I’d land this giant elbow on his face and he’s say ‘that all you got?
Mendes was gracious in defeat. He said he had no issue with the stoppage, and said he trusted the referee, Herb Dean, to make the call.
On the World title fight, scheduled for January 2nd, he made no prediction, other than to modestly declare Jose Aldo 'a different beast' and admit that it would be a fight he would be eager to watch.
