As unlikely as it seemed a few weeks ago, Barcelona have all but confirmed Neymar's departure from the club.
The Brazilian is set to join Paris Saint-Germain for a World Record fee of €222 million. The Catalan giants confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the Brazilian has asked to leave the club.
Earlier in the day they revealed he was excused from training.
While the fee shatters the previous World Record, Barcelona have insisted on getting paid the full fee upfront.
The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the Club in a meeting held at the Club’s offices.
Faced with this position, the Club has informed them they refer to the buy-out clause of his existing contract which as of 1 July totals 222 million euros which will have to be deposited in its entirety.
Furthermore, in reply to the claim for the contract extension bonus, the Club has once again made it clear that the amount remains deposited with a notary until the case is resolved.
The player remains under contract at FC Barcelona but with temporary permission to not take part in training sessions.
Neymar's father Neymar Sr. was due to receive a €26million fee from Barcelona yesterday, as part of the original contract that saw the Brazilian join the club.
The future of that payment remains up in the air, but it looks like the 25-year-old is set to swap Barcelona for Paris.
