Because of the rise and fall of Conor McGregor, I've been thinking a lot about professional wrestling lately. So much of what makes the UFC a global phenomenon has been borrowed directly from the WWE. Before Hollywood was making films about wrestlers, one documentary got people thinking about the real lives of people who grappled for a living.
Back in 1999, comedy screenwriter Barry Blaustein lifted the lid on life inside Vince McMahon's global empire with his documentary 'Beyond The Mat'. Featuring Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, Mick Foley and Terry Funk, 'Beyond The Mat' provides a very rare glimpse both outside the squared circle and inside the WWF's Connecticut offices. We also get to meet Vince McMahon at the height of his sinister weirdness.
