The transfer window has come and gone, and numerous clubs who failed to secure their main targets will have to resign themselves to promoting from within, that is unless they take a punt on a number of veteran players who are currently unattached. We at Balls.ie have put in the ground work by finding a suitable XI of players currently seeking work, and there are some rather good players in it. This also doubles as an early cheat-sheet for the best free agents to go for in Football Manager 15, check it out below.
GK - Victor Valdes
All the talk is that former Barcelona stalwart Victor Valdes is going to sign for Liverpool should he complete a medical next month, however until that is confirmed he remains a free agent if someone wants to take the risk.
RB - Giourkas Seitaridis
Reliable right-back Giourkas Seitaridis played many a game for Greece at major tournaments from 2002-2012, and enjoyed a spell at Atletico Madrid before returning to Panathinaikos where he played until he was released this summer.
CB - Jospeh Yobo
Towering Nigerian centre back Joseph Yobo is best known for his time at Everton where he enjoyed many successful seasons under David Moyes. He left for Fenerbache in 2010, but returned to the Premier League for an uninspiring loan spell at Norwich last year.
CB - Diego Lugano
While not enjoying the most spectacular club career, Lugano has always been excellent for Uruguay, and despite a forgettable time at West Brom last season, can surely offer some club a bit of experience at the back.
LB - Andrea Dossena
Liverpool fans will always have a soft spot for Italian wing-back Andrea Dossena after he lobbed Edwin Van Der Sar at Old Trafford in a memorable 4-1 win, and having moved to Napoli before a stint at Gus Poyet's Sunderland where he barely kicked a ball, Dossena would surely love another crack in English football.
CM - Alou Diarra
A player who Gérard Houllier once likened to Patrick Vieria, Diarra was always consdiered one of the better players in Ligue 1 during spells at Lyon, Bordeaux, and Marseille. His move to West Ham in 2012 came as a bit of a surprise, and he rarely featured due to some disagreements with the management. Capped 44 times for France, Diarra is another who could surely do a job for someone in need of a bit of bite in midfield.
CM - Jack Collison
Collison was considered one of the top English prospects only a few years ago, but has had a torrid time with injuries as of late. Anyone willing to take a gamble on the Welsh international could have a real player on their hands if he can stay fit.
CAM - Ronaldinho
What needs to be said about of the legend of the game of football? Somebody sign this man! Preferably on a league that I can watch on TV. This is of course unless the links to Basingstoke are true, but we're guessing they are not.
LW - Sotiris Ninis
Tricky Greek winger Sotiris Ninis was linked with almost every big European club when he broke into the Panathinaikos first team at just 16 years of age. He had to settle for a move to Parma in 2014 which didn't work out, but there is a lot of raw talent there if some manager wants to try and develop it.
RW - Christian Bolanos
Bolanos enjoyed an excellent World Cup with Costa Rica this summer. Alongside Bryan Ruiz, the crafty wide-man was instrumental in creating chances on the counter-attack for a team that shocked everyone who watched events unfold in Brazil. Surely a good option for any mid-table team in Europe's top leagues, it is only a matter of time before
ST - Nicolas Anelka
Having almost played for every club in the World, Nico Anelka is looking for a new club following the termination of his contract by West Brom last season due to an ill advised 'quenelle' hand gesture, described by Jewish groups as an inverted Nazi salute. He doesn't come without his baggage, that much is for sure, but Anelka gets goals wherever he goes.
