In a day that included Ireland opening their Six Nations account and some of Europe's big derbies, and don't forget the Allianz League of course, it takes a special kind of individual to steal some limelight from all of that. There's no doubt AP McCoy is a special kind of individual.
The greatest jockey to ever live (are we allowed to say that as a fact yet?) announced his decision to retire at the end of the season at Newbury today. Tributes poured in for the ever humble McCoy and he left the track, as you do, and headed back to Ireland with his wife Chanelle.
They arrived at Dublin Airport, hopped in a taxi and preceded to get the big news of the from taxi driver.
got into taxi at Dublin airport & taximan said to us 'did u hear McCoy is retiring'. We roared laughing & said he is McCoy. Nearly crashed!
