The EPCR announced today that it has commissioned a trophy to honour Anthony Foley's contribution to European rugby.
From now on, the European Player of the Year will receive the Anthony Foley Memorial Trophy.
The Munster head coach tragically passed away last October aged just 42.
EPCR Chairman Simon Halliday said:
This is a fitting way to honour Anthony's memory. He was a great player and a great leader as well as a galvanising force in Munster's European odyssey.
I would like to thank the Foley family and Munster Rugby for allowing us create this trophy for now and for the future.
There is a chance that this year's winner could be a Munster player. CJ Stander is one of the nominees for the award which is decided by a combination of public vote and a panel of rugby experts.
The winner will be announced following today's Champions Cup final between Clermont and Saracens.
Apart from Stander, the other nominees include Leinster's Garry Ringrose, Owen Farrell and Maro Itoje, both of Saracens, and Clermont's Camille Lopez.
