We're five days away from Notre Dame v. Navy in Dublin and the American teams are in the midst of full-on logistical firefighting mode. Notre Dame alone have 20,000 pounds of gear to deliver to Dublin. Dara Kelly from Irish Central has explained the fear and loathing sweeping South Bend on the eve of the Fighting Irish's journey to Dublin. Coach Brian Kelly said ‘‘I’m not a big fan of playing football games in Ireland.’ and here are some of the logistical nightmares that the Fighting Irish are looking to overcome.
The passports: You ever hear that stat about how 1 in 4 Americans has a passport? I'd say that stat skews to the lesser side for a football team.
The food: Apparently ND have been work with their hotel to Americanise their menus.
The electricity: They've had to buy converters for every seat in the press box, every Notre Dame hotel room and bit of sideline equipment.
The lockers: There's not enough in the Aviva - 28 lockers for the 100-strong team. They even want to move our 'Hall Of Fame' lockers. What the hell are they?
The laundry: Situation remains 'uncertain'. The team is bringing extra training clothes. (Note to Notre Dame - we do have laundry facilities in Ireland.)
The rain: Each player will have two types of boots in case there's serious rain.
