Given that the big fight is still over four months away, it would make sense that some of the trash talking has died down in recents weeks. But that doesn't mean McGregor vs Aldo is out of sight, out of mind. It's still the biggest draw in the UFC so whenever there's a media opportunity, it's likely there'll be something to take out of it.
Case in point, Aldo stepping up his trash talking game during an interview with Brazilian media outlet Globo. After admitting that McGregor's personality has helped increase the interest and the money involved in the featherweight division, the champion conceded that he is willing to alter his own promotional strategy .
I'm getting a taste for [trash talking]. We have to be provocative to sell fights, talk more, to know we'll be more profitable. It's important. The financial side is great for me, for the UFC, and for him.
And then he promptly proved that he was willing to do just that. There has been widespread suggestions that McGregor's mouth, as much as his fighting ability, has moved him into primary position to take Aldo's belt and that's something that the Brazilian seems to agree with.
But, if you talk about rankings, I think he's undeserving. But, the rankings serve no fucking purpose, nobody fucking respects it, so this fight is good for me because of the money.
