Former Mayo footballer Pearce Hanley has put an end to any hopes of a return to Ireland in the near future by signing a new five-year deal with the Brisbane Lions, according to the Courier-Mail. The article contains glowing praise of Hanley, saying:
"It is matter of when, not if, he wins All-Australian honours and he is the red-hot favourite for Brisbane's best-and-fairest award.
After being a latecomer to the game, the County Mayo product has become the Lions' most important player as he can single-handedly tear a game apart with his running ability, beautiful kick and creative flair."
So Mayo fans will have to keep waiting with crossed fingers for any return by Hanley. But let's have a reminder of how good he is, with five of his best AFL goals.
His first goal, scored in 2010, involving a brilliant sidestep.
Finishing off a nice team move from distance.
This one is all about the commentary (as well as another classy sidestep).
Great finish from out wide, followed by a few fist pumps.
Two dummies followed by a great finish.
Just don't ask him to play cricket.
