Conor McGregor's second win the in UFC came against Max Holloway back in August 2013 when The Notorious claimed a unanimous decision victory over the fighter from Hawaii. Since then, Holloway has gone on to win his five fights since, and now faces a match against highly ranked featherweight contender Cub Swanson to get himself back in the title picture.
Although Swanson will be a very tough test for Holloway, he already has his sights set on a rematch with McGregor, and is unhappy how most of the talk after that fight was focused on McGregor winning despite tearing his ACL.
Speaking to MMAJunkie, Holloway called McGregor a "cool dude" and seemed confident that a rematch will happen:
I’d do anything for that rematch, it’s going to happen. McGregor is a cool dude. He has nothing but respect for me. Every time someone brings up my name in interviews, he talks some good stuff. I think I earned his respect.
Everyone always says this and that about the first fight, but he cried about an injury that he had at the end of the second round, I didn’t cry about no injury. I had an injury in the first 30 seconds of the fight and I fought him all the way to a decision. He had two rounds to finish me and he couldn’t get it done.
If he wants to get it done and he wants to get that back, then give me a rematch and we’ll see what happens. If he wins his next fight and I win my fight, we’ll see what happens. Maybe we could do that rematch. I would love to get back at him. The first fight was great and the second fight is going to be even better.
While talk of a title fight if McGregor wins is fantasy stuff considering who is ahead of him in line for such a fight, it's interesting to think how the potential fight would go, and how McGregor would perform given how much he has grown since the first fight.
For now, Max Holloway must focus on Cub Swanson, who he fights next week at UFC on Fox 15.
