Yesterday was two years to the day since Conor McGregor made his UFC debut against Marcus Brimage in Stockholm. Like it or not, that date that can be seen as a significant milestone in Irish sporting history. It marked a very definite move towards a hype train which is now more of a seemingly unstoppable juggernaut.
Incredibly, the Dubliner has only fought four times since, but those four fights have been enough to turn McGregor from an up and comer in a niche sport to one of the country's most famous sons.
The man himself took to Twitter to mark the occasion with some predictably grandiose boasting.
2 years today I am here. Highest ratings: FOX and Fight Pass. Gate records in every venue. Best 1/4 in UFC history. pic.twitter.com/1VuBn0nW1o

Then came McGregor at his quotable best.
$16.3million dollars collected at the gate alone. I couldn't be humble even if I tried.

Regardless of your view of McGregor, you have to admit that's a great a line. We have nothing to base this on but we'd be willing to bet that before the end of the week someone somewhere will have that quote tattooed across their back/arm/leg.
