On a day when all sorts of bizarre 'news stories' appear, RTE have produced the best laughs for the day that's in it.
In a suitably understated article, RTE pulled back the curtain on McGregor and 'revealed' the true shy character, who is just happy to have been give the change on such a big stage:
Ah no, I wouldn't be into that kind of thing. All those bright lights, the glitz, the high rollers: not for me, thanks. I'm more likely to be staying in with the Late Late and a nice cup of tea.
RTE revealed that McGregor is unnerved by all the media attention the fight is receiving, saying that he just wants "to keep my head down and concentrate on the fight."
I’d like to just be able to enter a room quietly and take my place at the back of a crowd. Being the centre of attention, it’s not really my thing.
RTE have been praised for lifting the lid on the 'real McGregor', with this comment from Colm summing up the reaction RTE's efforts have attracted:
What a wonderfully humble man he is. An accidental hero who's talent alone has got him where he is today in the absence of any ego whatsoever. Thank you rte for highlighting the soft, fluffy and cuddly side of this beautiful man.
