Ian 'Uncle Creepy' McCall is a divisive sort of a chap. The last time we saw him he was grinding out a win over Brad Pickett on the undercard of the McGregor-Brandao fight at UFC Dublin. That was his second consecutive victory and one which has put him back on the road to the upper reaches of the flyweight rankings.
Now, he's once again on a main card in Vegas and he's been making the most of it. He's in line to face Brazilian John Lineker, who is indeed named after Gary, on the Silva-Diaz undercard and he's done quite a good job of making sure people are talking about him.
First there was his reaction to Lineker weighing five pounds overweight.
Then there was the bizarre Russian nesting dolls game that he played with his boxers.
We're guessing that the five pairs of jocks was because he knew Lineker was overweight and he was making a point, but in reality we don't know, perhaps he just likes to keep things warm down there.
The fight is going to go ahead at a catchweight of 130lbs and Lineker is going to be docked 20% of his purse. Dana White later confirmed that Lineker would no longer be allowed to fight at flyweight given his repeated struggles to make weight.
All of this is probably just filler before McCall takes on Joseph Benavidez. There's an interesting dynamic at play between the two and they're not afraid to talk about. Uncle Creepy is a product of the rough around the edges school of MMA, something which Benavidez doesn't take too kindly to.
Earlier this month Benavidez told Submission Radio that the UFC can do without someone like McCall.
I think the last thing the division needs is a champion nicknamed "Uncle Creepy" that looks the way Ian McCall does, you know what I mean?
That was in response to McCall saying that Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson had the 'personality of a coffee mug'. McCall has now had the chance to respond and he didn't take too kindly to Benavidez or the rest of his Team Alpha Male teammates.
They're the douchebag frat guys of MMA. They walk around flexing with their shirts off, bumping chests and just seem like they would be the guys that would try to bang your girlfriend when your back is turned. Good for you, you're the coolest guys in Sacramento.
