Irish sports fans - there's some interesting reading via the Irish Sports Council following their latest round of annual grants. At these times of penury, with national foreclosure looming, it's remarkable - and welcome - that the following Irish sporting bodies are still receiving this much funding. Bowling League of Ireland : €23,000
Horseshoe Pitchers of Ireland: €4,000
Irish Tug of War Association: €23,000
Irish Underwater Council: €59,125
Speleological Association of Ireland: €15,000
Baton Twirling Association of Ireland: €13,889
I hadn't been aware of our tug of war association, though Youtube tells me we won the 2007 European championships. It was the annoying accordion that won it for us.
