In the space of just one weekend, the rumours had exploded into life, then died down. Would Sting make his long-awaited WWE debut that had been nearly two decades in the making? That wasn't the only question that hung over the Survivor Series, though: who would open up Raw with a promo every week if Team Cena won and The Authority were put out of power? How would WWE get three hours out of a five match pay-per view? Could they bring Survivor Series back to its former glory? Can WWE really count it as a subscription if someone signs up for the free month of the Network they're offering around Survivor Series?

The true hardcore fans settled into Woolshed Dublin to watch the action, where many WWE 2K15 hijinks took place beforehand. And then it all went down. In spite of itself, Survivor Series delivered and turned out to be one of the most unpredictable and satisfying pay-per views of 2014. The night opened with Miz and Mizdow coming out on top in a crazy, action-packed, 4-way tag-team championship match. It took a dip as Team Natalya won a clean sweep over Team Paige in a Survivor Series match that felt about a half hour longer than it needed to be. But that was soon forgotten as Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt tore the house down, with a DQ finish that served to set up an impending TLC match between the two next month. Nikki Bella won the Divas Championship, following a kiss from sister/slave Brie to AJ Lee, in a brief match that's rumoured to be AJ's last with the company. And there was some filler too, as Roman Reigns cut a satellite promo and Adam Rose and The Bunny won a tag-team bout.

Then it was main event time. The Survivor Series match lived up to its great predecessors of old, unpredictable and exciting from bell-to-bell. Mark Henry found himself eliminated first for Team Authority, then after dominating briefly Ryback evened up the numbers. Rusev found himself counted out, though still technically never pinned or submitted, after missing a splash on the announce table on Dolph Ziggler. Former team-mates Erick Rowan and Luke Harper squared off, taking each other out and evening up the sides again. It was at this stage that Big Show turned on team-mate John Cena for his annual heel turn, leaving Dolph Ziggler on his own in a 3-on-1 situation. Could Ziggler finally get his big moment on pay-per view? Eliminations to Kane and Harper evened it up to just him and Rollins. And that's where the hijinks began. Multiple referees were bumped off as Triple H inserted himself in the action, delivering a Pedigree to Dolph. It seemed bad, then the lights went out. The familiar music hit. The live crowd (and the Woolshed) went wild. And Sting was making his WWE debut. After an intense face-off with Triple H, Sting dispatched of him before placing Ziggler on top of Rollins for the decisive three-count. Sting had debuted, Ziggler had won the big one, The Authority were done. It was a great match and a great night overall.
