Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld was lucky to walk away unharmed from this crash on the final lap of the first-ever Formula E race in Beijing.
The German collided with Nicholas Prost, son of 1980s F1 star Alain, and went spinning through the air after it appeared that Prost deviated from his racing line. Prost senior can be seen looking concerned in the aftermath of the collision which took both drivers out of the race.
After immediately escape the wreckage of his car, an angry Heidfeld confronted Prost verbally. He tweeted after the race to say that he was unurt, but still disappointed. Prost, for his part, denied any wrongdoing.
Just to let everybody know: I am fine... physically... Could/would/should have won that. Now nothing... #racing

The Formula E Championship is for electric cars only and will be spread out over a 10-race season. Despite the shocking nature of Heidfeld's flip, the organisers will surely be delighted with the publicity that only a bit of life-threatening controversy can bring.
