Charles Leclerc won his home race for the first time in Monaco this weekend, in what was a somewhat processional race following an early red flag.

However, one of the highlights was Martin Brundle’s grid walk on Sky Sports before the race, in which he goes and speaks to the celebrities in attendance at the Grand Prix. As is usual at the more extravagant races, there were many awkward interviews, which Brundle used to full comedic effect. These moments went viral on social media on Sunday afternoon, and here are some of best of those interviews from the Grid Walk.

Kylian Mbappé - Brundle is ‘in charge around here’

Probably the most viral interview on this list. Mbappé’s bodyguard attempted to shrug off Brundle, however the Sky Sports presenter responded firmly by letting him know that he was in fact the one in charge - a line that instantly gained traction on social media. Mbappé wasn’t particularly looking for a chat, but Brundle managed to get a few words out of him nonetheless, in what was a slightly uncomfortable interview.

Joe Jonas - Which brother was Brundle speaking to?

As he was coming up to Joe Jonas, Brundle let the audience know that he wasn’t sure which Jonas brother he was about to interview. Without missing a beat, he continued on in a professional manner and conducted a strong interview. He thanked ‘Joe’ at the end - presumably having been told in his ear who it was he was in fact speaking with.

Virgil van Dijk - Attempting an interview in Dutch?

Virgil van Dijk had been speaking to Dutch media prior to Brundle coming up to him looking for an interview, in what he described as being similar to a ‘queue at the cheese counter’. He then said to the other interviewer that they could speak to van Dijk together, not realising that there was a slight issue - the other interviewer was planning on interviewing the Liverpool defender in Dutch. Brundle presumably didn't want much to do with that, and he carried on chatting to van Dijk in English on his own.

Michael Douglas - speaking about his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones

The respect between Brundle and Michael Douglas was clear to see from this interview, as was Douglas’ love for his wife. In what was one of the most heart-warming interviews from the Grid Walk, Douglas spoke immediately about Zeta-Jones and the fact that she couldn’t be at the race. Douglas is also a big Formula 1 fan, and it seems Brundle enjoyed his chat with him.

You can watch Brundle's full grid walk below, which also featured chats with Siya Kolisi, Ben Chilwell and many more.

Even though the race itself lacked much activity, Brundle’s Grid Walk made up for it in terms of entertainment beforehand, with him being the star of the grid once again. He is most certainly King of the Grid Walk in Monaco every year without fail.
