One of the much publicised talking points heading into UFC 200 was the team versus team element - SBG Ireland vs Team Diaz - a turf war which was very much won by McGregor and Artem Lobov, who defeated Diaz training partner Chris Avila with relative ease on the preliminary card.
'The Russian Hammer', as he has been dubbed, outclassed Chris Avila to take home a unanimous decision victory in the first of two SBG Ireland v Team Diaz. Speaking after the fight, Lobov said that he felt that the threats and insults that Team Diaz were throwing at Lobov, McGregor and SBG Ireland in advance of the fight were hollow.
He explained:
There was a lot of talk about 209 and being this gangster and, you know, coming here to kill us and this and that. Yes, when there was fifteen of them and they were throwing bottles they were going at it but when it was face to face, man to man, all I heard was silence.
