The biggest fight week in the UFC for quite some time, if not ever, kicked off in Vegas last night with UFC Fight Night 80. One of the promotions big hopes in the women's ranks, Paige VanZant, was defeated by Rose Namajunas thanks to a rear naked choke in round 5.
And while VanZant's defeat went some way to derailing one hype train, the granite carved wonderboy that is Sage Northcutt ensured that his future prospects are still very much on the track with a second round submission win over Cody Pfister.
Northcutt's 57 second win on his UFC debut last time out ensured that the dollars signs started rolling in Dana White's head and while he wasn't quite as impressive this time around, the 19 year old did what he need to do 42 seconds into round two with a guillotine choke bringing the fight to an end.
Northcutt's ground game may have left a bit to be desired but he got the win that was needed and the lightweight prodigy even managed a slightly blatant plug for UFC Fight Pass in his post fight interview. Dana will be pleased.
