Nick Diaz's suspension is over, and he's back with a bang.
After spending the last 18 months serving a suspension for a failed drugs test which was initially, and inexplicably, supposed to be for five years, the older Diaz brother has wasted no time in reminding everyone that he gives just as few fucks about everything as his younger sibling, if not more.
When asked about the fact that both welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and middleweight champion Michael Bisping called him out for potential title-fights, he made the following claim:
I'm on top right now. I'm on top of this game. There ain't no 'giving' me a shot. I'm giving somebody a shot. If anybody's getting a shot, somebody's getting a shot against me, because I'm the guy to beat. These guys are not superstars, they don't, who, who are they? I don't even want to say their name because nobody even heard it yet till I say something now everyone knows who the guy is.
What he is saying here is that he knows that he is now the "money fight" in whatever division he will return to, but the idea that a champion would have to win a few more fights to prove themselves is something only a Diaz could come out with.
He also made a staggering allegation that he was drugged before his title fight with Georges Saint-Pierre:
When I fought Georges St-Pierre in Canada, first of all, somebody freaking drugged me. That guy didn't make weight. The commission comes up to me and tells me he's not going to make weight, and whether it was a pound or not a pound, it doesn't matter. In Las Vegas, if the fight had been where it should've been, they would've not only drug tested us, but there's no pound allowance so he would've had to make his full weight.
Talk about coming back with a bang.
The MMA world has changed quite a bit in the 18 months that Nick Diaz has missed, but he certainly isn't too pushed in terms of making up for lost time. It's clear that knows people want to see him fight again, and that the ball in firmly in his court when it comes to arranging his return to the octagon.
Here's the interview in full, and it's well worth a watch:
