Back in December 2012, Conor McGregor was a young man with a dream of taking his outstanding success in Cage Warriors to the UFC.
Dana White knew who he was thanks to Ireland's hardcore MMA fanbase badgering him at every possibility to sign him up, but outside of that loyal base of fans who were tuning into Cage Warriors, few were aware of what a special talent he was.
Now that he is just weeks away from having a shot at replicating his success in Cage Warriors in the UFC, by again becoming a champion of the featherweight and lightweight titles concurrently, we thought some may want to see how he performed the last time he weighed in at 155.
His obliteration of Ivan Buchinger in The Helix in Dublin was spectacular, and the fact that the man he defeated has since gone 9-0 (and turned down the UFC as he was making more money in Europe) only makes the manner of victory more impressive. Considering that many of his fans may have never seen him fight at lightweight before (not that there's anything wrong with that by the way unless you're an MMA hipster) we figured that such an impressive performance deserved a bit more love.
The Helix has become the MGM Grand, but the men in the corner will be the same as Conor McGregor takes on Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title on Saturday, March 5th.
Much has been made about the great shape that Rafael Dos Anjos looks in during training camp, but 155 is a far more comfortable weight for Conor, who is letting everybody know just how much he is enjoying the "cut" this time out:
