Former UFC bantamweight Dominick Cruz has a chance to regain his title on January 17th when he takes on current champ TJ Dillashaw in Boston's TD Garden, and he may have already gained an advantage with his performance on 'Counter Punch', a TV segment designed to basically have both fighters talk trash about each other in order to hype up the fight.
Cruz never lost his title, but was forced to vacate it due to undergoing three leg surgeries over three years, but now he's back, he's hungry and he is 100% confident that he is going to regain what he believes is rightfully his.
The last we heard of Cruz was when he joined Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan for the commentary during Rafael Dos Anjos' bout with Donald Cerrone, and he impressed MMA fans everywhere with his ability to convey his message and analyse what was happening in front of him, and on 'Counter Punch' he caught Dillashaw off guard with some expert mind games. See for yourself:
Expertly done.
Dillashaw starts out calm and composed, but it takes all of about 20 seconds for the current champ to go from "I don't need to talk" to "I'm gonna knock you out!", to which Cruz calmly picks apart his argument and leaves him with nothing other than a head-shake to argue his point.
It was a flawless performance from Cruz, and while the fight is by no means won, or anything close to that, it's clear that he has an emotional advantage over Dillashaw already.
There's something about the way Dominick Cruz talks about MMA that is truly fascinating, just look at his prediction for Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo, it's perfect:
We could listen to him all day.
Instead, we'll just patiently wait to see if he is correct again when he squares off with TJ Dillashaw in just under two weeks time.
