Moments after the pre-fight press conference between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz which descended into full-blown chaos with bottles of water and cans of Monster being thrown every which way, Conor McGregor spoke to Larry Pugmire of the LA Times about the incident at the press conference and the upcoming fight with Nate Diaz.
When asked to describe what just happened, McGregor said:
It was handbags. If they want to fight, let's fight. I just saw bottles being thrown and I was like, 'Fuck that. If you want to throw bottles, I'll throw cans.' [Sarcastically] But it was all in self-defence. I was scared for my life.
There has yet to be any sort of official comment from the the UFC in regard to the melee but Dana White has been known to have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to misbehaviour from his fighters at media events such as this. When asked if the incident might affect the fight, McGregor replied.
I hope everything's left. I hope we don't hear about it. That's what I'm thinking. We're ready to fight. We're prepared to fight.
