Any time a sports star in the US is involved in some sort of scandal, the nation waits with baited breath for the "tell-all" frank and honest interview in pure silence with very close up camera shots and, if all goes to plan for the TV station, a few tears as well. I think we all knew the Jon Jones cocaine Q & A was coming.
Unfortunately for Fox Sports, Jon Jones doesn't cry during his one-on-one interview, but instead calmly fields numerous questions about his decision making and previous drug use, as well as the impact this recent news has had on his life.
The whole situation is embarrassing. I've had to explain to so many people that I'm not a cocaine addict, or even a frequent user, I just made a really dumb decision.
The interviewer then asked a difficult question on when Jones first used cocaine, and if he had done any other drugs before, to which the UFC Light Heavyweight champion responded honestly:
I would say I was introduced to it in college. I've dibbed and dabbed in my share of partying, you know?
Jones then went on to express his regret over taking cocaine at that party, and claims he knew the test would show up positive, but insists it won't be an issue going forward:
The people in my inner circle know I don't have a problem. I don't have time for a cocaine problem.
In terms of a suspension or punishment, Jon Jones won't be effected by the UFC as the incident occurred out of season, but the embarrassment and damage to his public image are two things that Jones himself admits he will have to deal with going forward.
