Conor McGregor has justifiably been coming in for some stick from the brothers Diaz during his (comparably) barren media spell since UFC 196, and older brother Nick has turned up the heat with some barbed comments about the quality of The Notorious' training partners in Ireland.
While a victorious Nate gears up for a potential megabucks rematch with McGregor, Nick revealed to BJPenn.com that he believes Ireland couldn't possibly house the same calibre of gym partner as America, leading to 'The Notorious' coming unstuck against his brother in the MGM Grand earlier this month.
I'm just saying he's (Nate) had top matches with some of the best fuckin' black belts in the world, and you got the best fuckin' Irish guys over there - what the fuck - they just wanted to start to do this, you know. Everyone's jumping on board because one Irish dude is going somewhere, amongst all the Irish,
he said.
This ain't fuckin' Ireland. This is the best grapplers in the world you have here. Sparring and working with the best boxers in the world. But there ain't no money behind to promote our situation. Never has been.
Diaz also maintains McGregor has had massive promotional backing from the UFC, even since before the Dubliner's clash with José Aldo.
He repeatedly asked McGregor "who do you train with?" in the lead-up to his younger brother's colossal victory, but you get the impression that - even if he opts to trade slaps with the Stockton man at 170 - any changes in McGregor's camp will be minimal, and certainly won't involve training personnel.
An announcement regarding McGregor's next fight is expected in the coming days.
