After Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier brawled during a media event in the lobby of the MGM Grand two years ago, UFC President Dana White reportedly affirmed to Las Vegas hotel and casino that nothing like that would ever happen again during his watch.
While the bottle-throwing chaos which brought an early end to Wednesday's press conference may actually end up lining White's pockets just that little bit more, he is still far from pleased about what went down - and has stated that both Diaz and McGregor will be subject to "massive fines" from the Nevada State Athletici Commission, the governing body who oversee mixed martial arts in Las Vegas.
Not only that, White also stated to TMZ that there looks to be a lawsuit pending from someone who was injured during the fracas.
White said:
They're both getting punished. What everybody's got to understand is we're overseen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. I guarantee both of these guys are going to get massive fines and there's probably going to be a hearing after the fight. It's going to cost them both a lot of money, a lot of headache and hassle. They're both in big trouble.
The word is in this thing somebody was injured so there's going to be a lawsuit. Who knows how it's all going to play out. Somebody's filing a lawsuit. The wheels are already in motion on it.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission have a very low tolerance for issues like this and, while everything is speculation at this point, it wouldn't come as a great surprise if both fighters were hit financially and with a suspension which, depending on how the timing works out, could potentially rule McGregor out of November's UFC 205 card in Madison Square Garden.
