Reports have emerged that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov's return to the Octagon could see him face up against UFC legend Georges St-Pierre.
The news has emerged from MMA Team Dagestan, the same source that broke Khabib versus Conor McGregor two months before the official announcement.
Interestingly, when promoting that UFC 229 fight, Nurmagomedov was asked about the prospect of facing St-Pierres and responded that it would be a "very tough match" against the "greatest competitor in the UFC of all time."
It comes a day after Khabib's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, promised exciting news.
We will blow your mind big news coming @TeamKhabib 🔥🔥🔥🙏🏻

While hugely promising, the fight would still come as a surprise particularly given Tony Ferguson's legitimate claim for the right to fight Khabib. Ferguson defeated Anthony Pettis in the Fight of the Night at UFC 229 and called for the match-up in his post-fight press conference.
Khabib and I deserve to fight. We need to fight for the fifth time, we need to try this out again. He is the champ, I was the interim champ. I’m still the fucking champ. There’s no BS in this.
For Nurmagodeov and the UFC, the prospect of a Khabib versus GSP would represent the perfect trio of a big sell, a workable weight and a winnable bout. Should it come to fruition, it could pave the way for Ferguson to face off against the other potential opponent to emerge from UFC 229, Conor McGregor.
