Conor McGregor turned up 30 minutes late for his UFC 197 press conference last week. He also turned up - in his own words - dressed like 'El Chapo in his prime'.
McGregor's opponent on March 5th, a factor which often seems to be overlooked these days, is lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
Speaking during a small media tour in Brazil to promote the fight, dos Anjos said that he thought McGregor had 'lost it' when he arrived dressed like the Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo', aka Joaquin Guzman Loera.
When I saw him with that shirt I thought he had lost it. What was up with that? It’s horrible. A friend of mine showed me a video of ‘El Chapo’ later, and then I understood about the drug dealer.
He thinks he’s the boss, he thinks he’s God. Like I said, the next step is his fall. He will get scared.
Unlike Jose Aldo, Dos Anjos speaks fluent English, though he still finds it hard to understand McGregor's Irish accent.
I speak English, but he has an accent that is hard to understand sometimes. But I believe I was able to get in a debate with him. I believe it was worse for Aldo because he listened to what he said and watched everybody laugh but couldn’t understand a word. Press conferences aren’t the best thing to do, but it’s part of the job. It’s not fun to be there and listen to this clown do his comedy show.
